These emojis are often used to express solidarity, justice, equality, and support in conversations about Black Lives Matter. People use them in texts, captions, and social media posts about racial justice, community action, remembrance, empowerment, and public awareness. Black Lives Matter began in 2013 as a movement created by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi after the acquittal of George Zimmerman in the killing of Trayvon Martin, and it later grew into an internationally recognized civil rights movement.
