Discord

Discord is a popular and completely free messaging app that offers users a wide range of features for communication via text, voice, and video formats. One of its key features is a rich set of self-expression tools, especially a broad use of emojis. These small graphic symbols allow users to add emotional nuance to their messages and make interactions more lively and engaging. In Discord, there are two main types of emojis: custom server emojis and integrated emojis. Custom emojis are linked to specific servers and reflect their unique theme and culture. Integrated emojis, such as Twitch subscription emojis, are available across the entire Discord platform, providing consistency and convenience for users.

An important development in Discord’s emoji evolution was the adoption of Emoji 15.0 support, which went live on December 5, 2023. However, unlike Twitter/X, which unveiled its Emoji 15.0 design back in June 2023, Discord introduced its own, unique emoji style. This decision was driven by the discontinuation of official Twemoji support as an open-source resource in October 2022. Twemoji previously served as the foundation for many platforms, including Twitter, and its shutdown forced Discord to seek an alternative solution.
