Twitter (X)

Twitter, rebranded as X in July 2023, supports all standard emojis that users can insert via keyboard or emoji picker tool. Emojis can also be copied and pasted from various sources, including web pages displaying them. Twemoji is an open-source emoji set created and owned by Twitter since 2014. After Twitter was privatized in April 2022, the Twemoji project was seemingly discontinued by X, but it continued as an independent open-source project maintained by former Twitter employees and Discord developers.

Most emojis are allowed for use in Twitter/X usernames, but emoji resembling verification checkmarks are prohibited. There are lists of emojis that cannot be used in names or bios. Thus, Twitter/X combines support for standard emojis with custom developments and integrations, while maintaining the open-source Twemoji project, which continues to exist independently of the company.
