Telegram uses Apple’s emoji images to display symbols in its apps, instead of relying on the platform’s built-in emojis. Updates to these images happen roughly a month after their official release in iOS, allowing Telegram to keep up with the latest and most recognizable Apple emoji style. Since the end of 2020, Telegram has introduced support for custom animations for some emojis, which are sent separately, without additional text or other emojis. These animations are based on Apple’s designs and are updated regularly – new emojis receive animated support every few months.

Additionally, Telegram allows users to upload their own stickers and link them to specific emojis. When you type an emoji, pop-up suggestions with corresponding stickers appear, enhancing personalization in conversations. Emojis are also used to help protect voice calls, adding an extra layer of security and convenience.
